Abstract
An apparatus and methods are provided for heating and sensing the temperature of a chemical reaction chamber without direct physical contact between a heating device and the reaction chamber, or between a temperature sensor and the reaction chamber. A plurality of chemical reaction chambers can simultaneously or sequentially be heated independently and monitored separately.
Claims13
A method for thermally cycling a biochemical sample comprising:
- heating the biochemical sample to enable polymerase chain reaction of a nucleic acid sequence in the biochemical sample, wherein the heating comprises heating with a non-contact radiant heater;
- sensing a heated temperature of the biochemical sample, wherein the heated temperature is sufficient for polymerase chain reaction of the nucleic acid sequence, and wherein sensing the heated temperature comprises sensing with a non-contact temperature sensor;
- cooling the biochemical sample below the heated temperature;
- and
- sensing a cooled temperature of the biochemical sample, wherein sensing the cooled temperature comprises sensing with the non-contact temperature sensor,
- wherein sensing is continuous.
