Abstract
A mold flask assembly is provided with a novel clamping mechanism for clamping a pattern plate in the mold flask assembly of an automated molding machine. The clamping mechanism comprises a first clamp abutment and a clamping head extending along an axis. The clamping head provides a second clamp abutment. The first and second clamp abutments engage each other in a clamped position. The first and second clamp abutments are spaced along the axis and angularly displaced in a released position. A combination rotary and linear actuator is operative to facilitate relative linear translation and rotation between the rod and the bushing to move between the clamped and released positions.
Claims9
A mold clamping apparatus comprising:
- a first clamp abutment;
- a rod having an elongated axis and extending beyond said first clamp abutment, said rod having a clamping head that defines a second clamp abutment said second clamp abutments being movable between a clamping position overlying and engaging said first abutment and a released position linearly separated from said first clamp abutment in the direction of said rod axis and angularly displaced from said first clamp abutment about the axis of said rod so as not to be in overlying relation with said first clamp abutment;
- and
- a combination rotary and linear actuator operative for effecting both linear translation and rotational movement of said rod and clamping head between said clamped and released positions.
The apparatus of clamping 5 comprising first bracket means for mounting the actuator to a drag flask and second bracket means for mounting the slotted bushing to a cope flask.
A mold clamping apparatus comprising:
- a first clamp abutment;
- a rod extending along an axis and past the first clamp abutment, said rod including a clamping head on the rod providing a second clamp abutment, said first and second clamp abutments engaging each other in a clamped position, said first and second clamp abutments being spaced along the axis and angularly displaced in a released position;
- a combination rotary and linear actuator operative to effect relative linear translation and rotation between the clamping head and the first clamp abutment as an incident to relative movement between said clamped and released positions,
- said first clamp abutment having a slotted bushing, and said rod having a portion extending through said slotted bushing.
A mold clamping apparatus comprising:
- the first clamp abutment;
- a rod extending along an axis and past the first clamp abutment, said rod including a clamping head on the rod providing a second clamp abutment, said first and second clamp abutments engaging each other in a clamped position, said first and second clamp abutments being spaced along the axis and angularly displaced in a released position;
- a combination rotary and linear fluid actuator operative to facilitate relative linear translation and rotation between the clamping head and the first clamp abutment to move between the clamped and released positions,
- said actuator including a barrel and a piston slidable within the barrel, said piston dividing the barrel into first and second fluid chambers, said rod including a shaft portion connected to said piston and projecting upwardly from the barrel, and a cam between the said piston and barrel for effecting angular rotation of the piston between the released and clamped positions during linear movement of the piston.
