Abstract
A baby-leaf, red romaine lettuce cultivar designated 40-0203103-B, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of lettuce cultivar 40-0203103-B, to the plants of lettuce cultivar 40-0203103-B and to methods for producing a lettuce plant by crossing the cultivar 40-0203103-B with itself or another lettuce line. The invention further relates to methods for producing a lettuce plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic plants produced by that method and to methods for producing other lettuce lines derived from the cultivar 40-0203103-B.
Claims22
A seed of lettuce cultivar designated 40-0203103-B, a representative sample of seed of the cultivar having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-7414.
A lettuce plant, or a part thereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of lettuce cultivar 40-0203103-B, wherein a representative sample of seed of the cultivar was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-7414.
A method of introducing a desired trait into lettuce cultivar 40-0203103-B wherein the method comprises:
- a) crossing a 40-0203103-B plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-7414, with a plant of another lettuce cultivar that comprises a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease, or viral disease;
- b) selecting progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the 40-0203103-B plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of lettuce cultivar 40-0203103-B to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and
- e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of lettuce cultivar 40-0203103-B listed in Table 1.
