Abstract
A polymer for use in an optical device comprising one or more regions, where each region comprises (i) a first structural unit having general formula I: where m=1 or 2 and which contains at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, heteroaryl, and heteroaryloxy groups, each of which may be further substituted; and (ii) a second structural unit Ar selected from the group consisting of heteroaryl, triarylamine and 2,7-fluorenyl; such that where m=1 each region comprises a unit having general formula II: first structural unit—Ar (II) wherein, the substituent has a molecular weight of less than 300.
Claims22
A polymer for use in an optical device comprising one or more regions, where each region comprises (i) a first structural unit selected from the following formulae:
- where R and R1 are the same or different and each comprises a group selected from the group consisting of halide, cyano, substituted alkyl, unsubstituted alkyl, substituted alkoxy, unsubstituted alkoxy, substituted aryl, unsubstituted aryl, substituted aryloxy, unsubstituted aryloxy, substituted heteroaryl, unsubstituted heteroaryl, substituted heteroaryloxy and unsubstituted heteroaryloxy groups, with the proviso that R1 can also be hydrogen in the first structural unit consisting of a biphenyl moiety,
- R2, R3, R4 and R5 are the same or different and each comprises a group selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halide, cyano, substituted alkyl, unsubstituted alkyl, substituted alkoxy, unsubstituted alkoxy, substituted aryl, unsubstituted aryl, substituted aryloxy, unsubstituted aryloxy, substituted heteroaryl, unsubstituted heteroaryl, substituted heteroaryloxy and unsubstituted heteroaryloxy groups, and
- (ii) a second structural unit Ar selected from the group consisting of heteroaryl, triarylamine and 2,7-fluorenyl groups;
- such that the region comprises a unit having general formula II:
- first structural unit—Ar (II)
- wherein, R and R1 have a molecular weight of less than 300.
A polymer for use in an optical device comprising one or more regions, where the region comprises:
- (i) a first structural unit having a general formula selected from the following formulae:
- wherein substituents R, R1, R2, R3, and R4 are the same or different and each comprises a group selected from selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, heteroaryl and heteroaryloxy groups, each of which may be further substituted;
- and
- (ii) a second structural unit Ar selected from the group consisting of heteroaryl, triarylamine and 2,7-fluorenyl;
- such that the region comprises a unit having general formula II:
- ti first structural unit—Ar(II)
- wherein, each substituent has a molecular weight of less than 300.
