Abstract
A compound body can be constructed, using secondary cell wall polymers of prokaryotic microorganisms as bonding agent to anchor a monomolecular lattice to a support, with or without functional groups attached to the lattice. The lattice may be comprised of lipid or crystalline cell surface layer proteins. The support is illustrated by a micro-filtration membrane, a cell surface ultra-filtration membrane (SUM), and a micelle, respectively.
Claims15
A method for constructing a compound body through the use of bacterial secondary cell wall polymers as bonding agent, said method comprising:
- (a) bringing said polymers into contact with a support in solution, such that a first complex is formed;
- and then
- (b) bringing said complex into contact with a monomolecular lattice, such that a compound body is formed, comprised of said lattice and said complex.
A method for constructing a sandwiched compound body through the use of bacterial secondary cell wall polymers, said method comprising:
- (a) bringing said polymers into contact with crystalline bacterial cell surface layer proteins, such that a monomolecular crystalline protein layer is formed;
- (b) bringing said protein layer into contact with a lipid layer, such that said lipid layer is bound to said protein layer through said polymers to form a first aggregate compound body;
- (c) repeating steps (a) and (b) to form a second aggregate compound body;
- (d) bringing said first aggregate compound body into contact with said second aggregate compound body, such that said aggregate compound bodies bind to each other through the lipid layers to form a sandwiched compound body.
