Abstract
A light guide is configured to direct light from a light source. The light guide has an outer guide member and an inner guide member located in the outer guide member. A light passage is defined through the light guide between the inner and outer guide members. When a first end of the light guide is positioned adjacent a light source, light is permitted to pass from the light source through only the light passage in the light guide. The configuration of the light guide reduces passage of light off-angle to the length of the light passage through the guide, such that light is directed substantially parallel to the light passage. The light guide is thus effective in eliminating light dispersion and associated light banding and in focusing light upon a particular object or area.
Claims20
A light directing device configured to direct light emitted from a light source comprising:
- a light guide, said light guide having a first end and a second end and a inner guide member and an outer guide member, said inner guide member located at least partially within said outer guide member, a light passage defined between an outer surface of said inner guide member and an inner surface of said outer guide member, whereby when said first end of said light guide is positioned adjacent a light source, light is permitted to pass from said light source only through said light passage in said light guide, said light emitted from said second end of said light guide.
In combination, a light guide and a light source, said light source comprising a light emitting element located within a reflective body, said body having an open end to which light is directed, said light guide having a first end and a second end, said first end of said light guide positioned adjacent said body of said light source, said light guide comprising a light blocking inner guide member located in an outer guide member, said light guide including a light passage extending from said first end to said second end, said light passage positioned at least partially between said inner guide member and said outer guide member.
A light guide configured to direct light from a light source comprising:
- a body having a first end and a second end, said body defining an outer wall and an inner wall, said body having a light-emitting passage extending from said first end to said second end, at least a portion of said passage defined by a space between said inner and outer walls, said inner wall defining an interior area, said interior area closed between said first and second ends of said body, whereby when said first end of said light guide is positioned adjacent said light source, light is prevented from passing through said interior area from said first end to said second end of said light guide, but light is permitted to pass from said light source through said light-emitting passage for emission from said second end of said light guide.
