Abstract
Provided is a nucleotide sequence of a promoter from a gene encoding a 55 kDa maize prolamin family protein. Also provided are methods that utilize the 55 kDa maize prolamin family gene promoter to express heterologous sequences in plants, expression cassettes that include the 55 kDa maize prolamin family gene promoter, and plants transformed with expression cassettes that include the 55 kDa maize prolamin family gene promoter.
Claims25
A method for expressing a nucleotide sequence in a plant, the method comprising:
- (a) operably linking the nucleotide sequence to a promoter comprising SEQ ID NO:
- 6 to produce an expression cassette;
- and
- (b) generating a transgenic plant comprising the expression cassette, whereby the nucleotide sequence is expressed in the plant.
An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising SEQ ID NO:
- 6.
An expression cassette comprising SEQ ID NO:
- 6.
A method of producing a heterologous polypeptide in a plant cell, the method comprising:
- (a) generating a plant cell comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding the heterologous polypeptide operably linked to SEQ ID NO:
- 6;
- and
- (b) expressing in the plant cell the nuoleotide sequence encoding the heterologous polypeptide,
- whereby the heterologous polypeptide is produced in the plant cell.
