Abstract
According to one aspect of the invention, there is provided the use of an organic ionic liquid in a zeolite-catalysed process, for example an acylation, alkylation, isomerisation or hydrocracking process in which zeolites act as catalysts or catalyst precursors, especially Friedel-Crafts alkylation and acylation procedures.
Claims35
A method for catalyzing an electrophilic substitution reaction between two or more reactants, said method comprising the steps of contacting:
- 1) a zeolite;
- 2 a reaction medium comprising an ionic liquid;
- and
- 3) at least two reactants;
- such that the zeolite acts as a catalyst and/or catalyst precursor and electrophilic substitution reaction products are formed.
2 more elements
A process comprising the steps of:
- 1) providing a zeolite;
- 2) providing a reaction medium comprising an ionic liquid;
- 3) providing at least two reactants capable of interreacting to form elctrophilic substitution products;
- and
- 4) contacting the zeolite, the ionic liquid reaction medium and the at least two reactants such that the at least two reactants undergo an electrophilic substitution reaction in which the zeolite acts as a catalyst and/or catalyst precursor.
