Abstract
The invention provides polypeptides having wax ester synthase and acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase activity. Also provided are the nucleic acids encoding such polypeptides, cells and organisms transformed therewith and methods of use thereof. The invention allows the modification of lipid profiles in host cells and organisms. Novel methods for the production of waxy esters are also provided by the invention.

An isolated polynucleotide encoding the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:4.
An isolated polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide having wax ester synthase/acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase activity, wherein the polynucleotide comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or a nucleotide sequence that hybridizes to the complement thereof under conditions of 5×SSC, 50% formamide and 42° C.
A recombinant vector comprising an isolated polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide having wax ester synthase activity and having the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or a nucleotide sequence that hybridizes thereto under conditions of 5× SSC, 50% formamide and 42° C.
