Abstract
An oxidic composition which is suitable as a catalyst having divalent and trivalent iron in an atomic ratio of divalent to trivalent iron in the range from greater than 0.5 to 5.5 and oxygen as a counterion to the divalent and trivalent iron. The catalyst composition is useful in the hydrogenation of nitriles to amines.
Claims7
A process for the hydrogenation of nitriles to amines in the presence of iron-containing compositions as catalyst, wherein the composition can be obtained by treating an oxidic composition which is suitable as a catalyst precursor and comprises
- a) divalent iron and trivalent iron in an atomic ratio of divalent iron to trivalent iron in the range from >0.5 to 5.5 and
- b) oxygen as counterion to the divalent iron and trivalent iron. in a reducing atmosphere.
A process for the hydrogenation of nitriles to amines in the presence of iron-containing compositions as catalyst, wherein the composition can be obtained by treating an oxidic composition which is suitable as a catalyst precursor with from 1 to 50% by weight of elemental iron based on the oxidic composition and heating this mixture at least to the melting point and consequently treating said mixture in a reducing atmosphere and comprises
- a) divalent iron and trivalent iron in an atomic ratio of divalent iron to trivalent iron in the range from >0.5 to 5.5 and
- b) oxygen as counterion to the divalent iron and trivalent iron.
A process for the hydrogenation of nitriles to amines in the presence of iron-containing compositions as catalyst, wherein the composition can be obtained by treating an oxidic composition which is suitable as a catalyst precursor and comprises
- a) divalent iron and trivalent iron in an atomic ratio of divalent iron to trivalent iron in the range from >0.5 to 5.5 and
- b) oxygen as counterion to the divalent iron and trivalent iron
- c) from 0.01 to 5% by weight, based on a), a promoter based on 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 elements selected from the group consisting of aluminum, silicon, zirconium, titanium and vanadium and
- d) from 0 to 0.5% by weight, based on a), of a compound based on an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal
- e) from 0.001 to 1% by weight of manganese in the form of a compound based on manganese in a reducing atmosphere.
