Abstract
The DNA and amino acid sequences are disclosed for a ligand (EDA1-II) and receptor (dl in mice and DL in humans) involved in ectodermal dysplasia. Also disclosed are variant DNA and amino acid sequences, and therapeutic applications of the ligands and receptors.
Claims10
A method of increasing one or more of hair follicle development or sweat gland development in a newborn subject suffering from X-linked hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (XLHED) or autosomal hypobidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED), comprising administering an amount of EDA1-II protein to the subject sufficient to promote one or more of hair follicle development or sweat gland development, wherein the EDA1-II protein comprises amino acids 239–391 of SEQ ID NO:
- 2 and can promote one or more of hair follicle development or sweat gland development in the subject.
