Abstract
The invention provides a novel calcium-independent cytosolic phospholipase A2/B enzyme, polynucleotides encoding such enzyme, antibodies to such enzyme, and methods for screening unknown compounds for anti-inflammatory activity mediated by the arachidonic acid cascade.

A purified antibody that specifically binds to an epitope in an amino acid sequence selected from:
- (a) the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:17;
- (b) the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:19;
- (c) a fragment of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:19 having activity in a mixed micelle assay with 1-palmitoyl-2-[14C]-arachidonyl-phosphatidyleholine;
- (d) the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:21;
- (e) a fragment of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:21 having activity in a mixed micelle assay with 1-palmitoyl-2-[14C]-arachidonyl-phosphatidyicholine;
- (f) the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:23;
- and
- (g) a fragment of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:23 having activity in a mixed micelle assay with 1-palmitoyl-2-[14C]-arachidonyl-phosphatidyleholine.
