Method of correcting for phase error induced by a down sampling routine

A method of correcting a data signal sampled at a first rate to a data signal displayed on a video monitor at a second rate, said method comprising:

• receiving the data signal at the first rate;
• separating the data signal into at least one data window, each data window having therein a predetermined number of data points having respective values;
• identifying at least one of either a minimum and maximum value of the data points;
• determining the difference between a position of the one of the minimum and maximum value and a reference position,
• determining a display position based upon at least an adjustment associated with said determined difference;
• and
• displaying the data point having the one of the minimum and maximum value at the display position.
