A photonic switch for switching an incoming light beam from a first path to a second path, the photonic switch comprising a light sensitive material with a refractive index able to be changed by an induced light.

A photonic switch for switching an incoming light beam from a first path to a second path, the photonic switch comprising a light sensitive material with a refractive index able to be changed by a pulsed laser beam having a variable pulse width and a variable repetition rate, wherein the variable pulse width and variable repetition rate are controlled by use of a controlled band pass filter.
