In-plane field type liquid crystal display device comprising liquid crystal molecules with more than two kinds of reorientation directions

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a pair of substrates with a liquid crystal layer therebetween;
• a plurality of scanning signal lines and a plurality of video signal lines formed on one of the pair of substrates;
• a plurality of first electrodes provided on the one of the pair of substrates;
• a plurality of second electrodes provided on the one of the pair of substrates to drive the liquid crystal layer by a voltage difference with respect to the first electrode;
• and
• an orientation film formed on a nearest surface to the liquid crystal layer on each of the pair of substrates and having an initial orientation direction;
• wherein at least one second electrode is sandwiched by two first electrodes in each pixel, and forms a first region arranged at a left side of the second electrode and a second region arranged at a right side of the second electrode;
• one of the first electrode and the second electrode become wider gradually in order to reduce a distance between the first electrode and the second electrode;
• and
• a direction where the electrode becomes wider is a counter direction at the first region and at the second region.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a pair of substrates with a liquid crystal layer therebetween;
• a plurality of scanning signal lines and a plurality of video signal lines formed on one of the pair of substrates;
• a plurality of first electrodes provided on the one of the pair of substrates;
• a plurality of second electrodes provided on the one of the pair of substrates to drive the liquid crystal layer by forming an electric field by a voltage difference with respect to the first electrode;
• and
• an orientation film formed on a nearest surface to the liquid crystal layer on each of the pair of substrates and having an initial orientation direction;
• wherein at least one second electrode is sandwiched by two first electrodes in each pixel, a region between the first electrode and the second electrode includes first and second regions along an elongated direction of the second electrode;
• the first electrode and the second electrode are arranged substantially in parallel in the first region and arranged to be non-parallel in the second region;
• a direction of the electric field formed between the first electrode and the second electrode in the second region is different from a right angle to the second electrode in the first region;
• and
• the direction of the electric field in the second region is in counter relation to the initial orientation direction between a right side and a left side of the second electrode.

A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a pair of substrates with a liquid crystal layer therebetween;
• a plurality of scanning signal lines and a plurality of video signal lines formed on one of the pair of substrates;
• a plurality of first electrodes provided on the one of the pair of substrates;
• a plurality of second electrodes provided on the one of the pair of substrates to drive the liquid crystal layer by forming an electric field by a voltage difference with respect to the first electrode;
• and
• an orientation film formed on a nearest surface to the liquid crystal layer on each of the pair of substrates and having an initial orientation direction;
• wherein the first electrode and the second electrode are substantially in parallel, and at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode has a wider portion at a tip of the electrode.
