Abstract
The invention is directed to the use of imatinib mesylate for treating polycythemia vera. Imatinib mesylate is surprisingly effective at controlling the symptoms of polycythemia vera and reducing the need for phlebotomy.
Claims6
A method of treating polycythemia vera in a warm-blooded animal in need thereof comprising administering to the warm-blooded animal a therapeutically effective amount of N-{5-[4-(4-methyl-piperazino-methyl)-benzoylamido]-2-methylphenyl}-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidine-amine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to thereby reduce at least one symptom of polycythemia vera.
