Abstract
A ceramic core for use in casting an article such as for example an airfoil, wherein the ceramic core has a pocket located at or near a region of the core that is otherwise associated with occurrence of a localized casting defect in the cast article. A covering is disposed on the core to cover the pocket and provide core outer surface features.
Claims17
A ceramic core for use in casting a metallic article, said ceramic core having a pocket located proximate a region of the core that is otherwise associated with occurrence of a localized casting defect in the metallic article and having a covering on said core to cover an open side of said pocket at an outer core surface.
A ceramic core for use in casting a metallic article, said ceramic core having a pocket located proximate a localized region of the core that is otherwise associated with occurrence of a localized casting defect in the metallic article and having a covering that is disposed on said core to cover said pocket and that provides outer surface features at said localized region that are complementary with those features of an outer core surface disposed about said pocket at said localized region.
