Abstract
A system of analyzing engine performance to assist in the improved control of a dual fuel engine includes measuring devices for measuring parameters including engine load, RPM, fuel injected, air inlet temperature, exhaust temperature, oxygen or carbon dioxide levels in the exhaust gases, at discrete time intervals. An electronic storage device stores the data collected by the measuring devices at each of the discrete time intervals, and analysis apparatus analyzes the stored data to establish a data table for each parameter against each measured engine load and RPM point. Imaging software is provided for presenting the data sets for each parameter as a three dimensional surface plotted against load and RPM.

A system of analyzing engine performance to assist in the improved control of a dual fuel engine which includes;
- a) measuring devices for measuring parameters including engine load, RPM, fuel injected, air inlet temperature, exhaust temperature, oxygen or carbon dioxide levels in the exhaust gases, at discrete time intervals;
- b) electronic storage means for storing the data collected by the measuring devices at each of said discrete time intervals;
- c) analysis means to analyze the stored data to establish a data table for each parameter against each measured engine load and RPM point;
- d) imaging software means for presenting the data sets for each parameter as a 3 dimensional surface plotted against load and RPM.
A method of controlling substitution of gas for diesel fuel in a dual fuel diesel engine which uses diesel as the fuel, comprising the steps:
- a) measuring parameters of an engine, the parameters including engine load, RPM, fuel injected, air inlet temperature, exhaust temperature, oxygen or carbon dioxide levels in the exhaust gases, at discrete time intervals;
- b) storing the measured parameter data;
- c) analyzing the stored data to establish a data table for each parameter against each measured engine load and RPM point;
- d) imaging software means for presenting the data sets for each parameter as a 3 dimensional surface plotted against load and RPM;
- e) determining the appropriate gas substitution for delivery as fuel to the engine.
A control system for the substitution of gas for diesel in a dual fuel diesel engine which includes
- a) means for sensing or deriving RPM
- b) means for sensing or deriving Load
- c) means for storing a fuel requirements data table of respective parameters as a function of load and RPM, the data of the table having been preestablished by measurement and analysis for the parameters including engine load, RPM, fuel injected, air inlet temperature, exhaust temperature, oxygen or carbon dioxide levels in the exhaust gases, at discrete time intervals;
- and
- d) processing means for monitoring the load and RPM of the engine, and after comparing these to said stored data table, determining an appropriate gas substitution.
