Abstract
Compounds of formula I are useful for treating conditions associated with hyperglycemia, especially Type II diabetes. These compounds are useful in stimulating the kinase activity of the insulin receptor, activating the insulin receptor, and stimulating the uptake of glucose. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising the antidiabetic compounds are also disclosed.

A compound of the formula:
- where
- R5 and R6 are independently selected from hydrogen and hydroxy;
- each R10 is, independently, substituted aryl or substituted heteroaryl;
- at least one of the substituents on each R10 is R12;
- each R12 is, independently, —SO2OR13, —C(O)OR13, —SO2NR132, —C(O)NR132, triazolyl, tetrazolyl, isoxazolyl, a phosphonic acid residue, or a phosphonate residue;
- and
- each R13 is, independently, hydrogen or lower alkyl,
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,
- as a single stereoisomer or mixture of stereoisomers.
