Abstract
The present invention provides a method of nucleic acid, including DNA, immunization of a host, including humans, against disease caused by infection by a strain of Chlamydia, specifically C. pneumoniae, employing a vector containing a nucleotide sequence encoding full-length, 5′-truncated or 3′-truncated 76 kDa protein of a strain of Chlamydia pneumoniae and a promoter to effect expression of the 76 kDa protein gene in the host. Modifications are possible within the scope of this invention.
Claims16
A vaccine vector consisting essentially of an isolated nucleic acid molecule which encodes:
- (a) SEQ ID No:
- 2;
- (b) SEQ ID No. 4;
- or
- (c) SEQ ID No. 6;
- wherein the nucleic acid molecule is operatively linked to a promoter for expression of the polypeptide in a mammalian cell.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent suitable for use in a vaccine and an isolated nucleic acid molecule consisting essentially of a nucleic acid sequence which encodes:
- (a) SEQ ID No:
- 2;
- (b) SEQ ID No. 4;
- or
- (c) SEQ ID No. 6;
- wherein the nucleic acid molecule is operatively linked to a promoter for expression of the polypeptide in a mammalian cell.
A method for preventing or treating Chiamydia pneumoniae infection comprising the step of administering an effective amount of an isolated nucleic acid molecule which encodes:
- (a) SEQ ID No:
- 2;
- (b) SEQ ID No. 4;
- or
- (c) SEQ ID No. 6;
- wherein the nucleic acid molecule is operatively linked to a promoter for expression of the polypeptide in a mammalian cell.
