Abstract
The present invention relates to a method of suppressing bone marrow (BM) and treating conditions that arise in or near bone such as cancer, myeloproliferative diseases, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, metabolic diseases or genetic diseases, with compositions having as their active ingredient a radionuclide complexed with a chelating agent such as macrocyclic aminophosphonic acid.
Claims29
A therapeutic method for treating leukemia comprising:
- (a) hydrating a leukemia patient;
- (b) administering a dose of about 400–4000 mCi 153Sm-EDTMP to said patient by intravenous injection or infusion in an aqueous vehicle comprising an effective amount of a pharmaceutically acceptable radioprotectant;
- (c) administering a dose of melphalan, bisulfan, cyclophosphamide or a combination thereof, to said patient;
- and
- (d) providing the patient with a stem cell transplant;
- wherein the patient is not subjected to total body irradiation in conjunction with the therapeutic method.
A therapeutic method for treating a bone-associated cancer in a human patient comprising:
- (a) parenterally administering to the patient a dose of about 400–4000 mCi of 153Sm-EDTMP;
- (b) administering a dose of a second chemotherapeutic agent to said patients, wherein steps (a) and/or (b) are effective to suppress the bone marrow of a human patient;
- and
- (c) providing the patient with bone marrow transplantation and/or restoration;
- wherein the patient is not subjected to total body irradiation in conjunction with the therapeutic method, and wherein the bone associated cancer is prostrate cancer or breast cancer that has metastasized to the bone.
A therapeutic method for treating a bone-associated cancer in a human patient comprising:
- (a) parenterally administering to said patient a dose of about 400–4000 mCi of 153Sm-EDTMP by intravenous injection or infusion in an aqueous vehicle comprising an effective amount of a pharmaceutically acceptable radioprotectant;
- (b) administering a dose of a second chemotherapeutic agent to said patients, wherein steps (a) and/or (b) are effective to suppress the bone marrow of a human patient;
- and
- (c) providing the patient with bone marrow transplantation and/or restoration;
- wherein the patient is not subjected to total body irradiation in conjunction with the therapeutic method.
