Abstract
A fiber optic apparatus comprising a biconvex optical lens having two equivalent aspheric optical surfaces; an optical fiber approximately located at one of a front focal plane and a back focal plane of the optical lens; and a structure positioned relative to the optical lens and the optical fiber, wherein the structure maintains the position of the optical lens relative to the optical fiber.

A fiber optic apparatus comprising:
- a number of biconvex optical lens having two equivalent aspheric optical surfaces;
- a number of optical fibers approximately located at one of a front focal plane and a back focal plane of the optical lenses, the number of optical fibers being equal to the number of biconvex optical lenses;
- and
- a structure positioned relative to the optical lenses and the optical fibers, wherein the structure maintains the position of the optical lenses relative to the optical fibers.

A fiber optic apparatus comprising:
- a biconvex optical lens having two equivalent aspheric optical surfaces, wherein the lens has a curvature of the first optical surface of 0.48976 mm −1, a conic constant of the first optical surface of k=−1.946435, a center thickness of 2.500 mm, a curvature of the second optical surface of −0.48976 mm−1, a conic constant of the second optical surface of k=−1.946435, and a refractive index at 1550 nm of 1.7028.
A fiber optic apparatus comprising:
- a biconvex optical lens having two equivalent aspheric optical surfaces;
- an optical fiber approximately located at one of a front focal plane and a back focal plane of the optical lens;
- and
- a structure positioned relative to the optical lens and the optical fiber, wherein the structure maintains the position of the optical lens relative to the optical fiber and the aspheric optical surfaces have a maximum departure from a vertex sphere of from 0.0005 to 0.0040 mm at a diameter of 0.972 mm.
