Method of image correction for an eye level image projector, and apparatus for performing the method

A vehicle comprising:

• a fascia;
• a windshield above the fascia;
• a driver's seat;
• and
• an eve level image projector installed on the fascia, the projector comprising an image emitting surface on a liquid crystal display panel which is configured to emit light in the form of a parallel rays incident at a point of incidence on an inside face of the windshield that is visible to an observer in the driver's seat;
• a processor associated with the projector and configured, as a function of geometrical and optical characteristics of the windshield, to generate a deformed image at the emitting surface to substantially eliminate a multiplication effect produced by the windshield,
• wherein an image reflected by the windshield to the observer (C) is represented by the following formula:
• C−p(I+Dκ)B
• wherein p represents an overall reflection coefficient applied by the windshield, I is a unity matrix, Dκis a matrix of vertical deviation of κ lines associated with the multiplication effect of at least one dioptre of the windshield, the non-zero κIth diagonal of which comprises an Γ1th element corresponding to the optical characteristics of a ZCrnC of incidence on the windshield in geometrical relationship with said Γ1th element, and B is a matrix representing the image projected by the projector.
