Abstract
A method of making the saturated aircraft brake preform using a coal tar pitch having a softening point in the range of about 160° C. to 240° C. Also, a product having natural rubber in the formulation and the method of making the product using a coal tar pitch having a softening point in the range of about 140° C. to 200° C. A mesophase pitch is formed from quinoline insoluble free coal tar pitch distillate from a high efficiency evaporative distillation process.
Claims4
A method of making a saturated aircraft brake preform comprising:
- placing a carbon fiber preform under a vacuum;
- heating the carbon fiber preform;
- introducing coal tar pitch having a softening point in the range of about 160° C. to 240° C. into the carbon fiber preform;
- pressurizing the coal tar pitch saturated carbon fiber preform with nitrogen;
- cooling the saturated carbon fiber preform;
- processing the saturated carbon fiber preform by chemical vapor infiltration.
A mesophase pitch formed from quinoline insoluble free coal tar pitch distillate from a high efficiency evaporative distillation process.
