Abstract
A method is disclosed for acquisition and analysis of condition monitoring data. Alarm and alert levels are set to proper levels and information regarding the frequency and cause for alerts is collected. Analysis of the information may then be performed to provide a user with easily understandable representations of the system errors and suggested actions.
Claims19
A method for assisting a user in analyzing particles in a fluid sample from a machine, the method comprising the steps of:
- obtaining a sample of fluid from a machine;
- measuring parameters of particles in the fluid, the parameters including a count of particles and a size of substantially each particle counted;
- calculating a particle count size distribution for the fluid sample wherein the total count of particles for a plurality of sizes is determined;
- calculating a particle volume for each of the particles and determining a total volume for each particle size;
- and
- providing information to a user including a volume size distribution showing the total particle volume for each particle size.
A method for assisting a user in analyzing particles in a fluid sample from a machine, the method comprising the steps of:
- obtaining a particle count for each of a plurality of particle sizes in a fluid sample;
- calculating a particle count size distribution for the fluid sample;
- calculating a normalized curve from the particle count size distribution;
- and
- comparing the normalized curves to a plurality of stored curves within a database, wherein each of the plurality of stored curves is associated with a particular type of machine condition;
- identifying at least one of the plurality of stored curves based on the fit between the normalized curve and the plurality of stored curves.
A method for assisting a user in analyzing particles in a fluid sample obtained from a machine, the method comprising the steps of:
- obtaining a particle count for each particle size from a fluid sample;
- calculating a particle count size distribution for the fluid sample;
- calculating a particle volume relative to each particle size;
- calculating the total particle volume present in the fluid sample;
- calculating the particle volume for at least one particle size range;
- calculating a normalized curve from the particle count size distribution;
- comparing the normalized curves to a plurality of stored curves within a database, wherein each of the plurality of stored curves are associated with a particular type of machinery problem;
- calculating a confidence factor for each type of machinery problem based on the fit between the normalized curve and each of the plurality of stored curves;
- and
- providing information to a user including a volume size distribution showing particle volume in relation to particle size, the total particle volume present in the fluid sample, the particle volume for at least one particle size range, and at least one the machinery problems having the highest confidence factor.
