Abstract
A dedicated hardware block is provided for implementing crossbars and/or barrel shifters in programmable logic resources. Crossbar and/or barrel shifter circuitry may replace one or more rows, one or more columns, one or more rectangles, or any combination thereof of programmable logic regions on a programmable logic resource. The functionality of the crossbar and/or barrel shifter circuitry can further be improved by implementing time-multiplexing.
Claims15
A programmable logic resource comprising:
- a plurality of programmable logic regions;
- a crossbar and/or barrel shifter hardware block that employs time-multiplexing;
- and
- interconnect resources that interconnect the crossbar and/or barrel shifter hardware block to at least some of the programmable logic regions,
- wherein the crossbar and/or barrel shifter hardware block is operative to receive as input data over a first two consecutive clock cycles and to apply a crossbar and/or barrel shifter operation to the data received during the first two consecutive clock cycles during a same clock cycle.
2 more elements
A method comprising:
- routing first input signals to circuitry employing time-multiplexing during a first clock cycle, wherein the circuitry is concentrated in a particular area of a programmable logic resource and is dedicated to a crossbar and/or barrel shifter operation;
- routing second input signals to the circuitry during a second clock cycle;
- and
- applying a crossbar and/or barrel shifter operation to the first input signals and the second input signal during a same clock cycle using the circuitry.
