The invention describes a method of inducing fungal resistance to plants by transformation with acquired resistance genes.

A method of conferring resistance to a fungal pathogen in a plant, the method comprising transforming a plant cell with a nucleic acid sequence that encodes the acquired resistance polypeptide as set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 4, and regenerating a plant from said transformed plant cell, wherein said plant exhibits resistance to said fungal pathogen.
A method of conferring resistance in a plant to a Magnaporthe fungal pathogen, the method comprising transforming a plant cell with a nucleic acid sequence that encodes the acquired resistance polypeptide as set forth in SEQ ID NO:
