Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of Coenzyme Q10 or functionally equivalent derivatives thereof, through topical or systemic administration, for the prevention, the treatment and/or attenuation of degenerative ocular pathologies, said pathologies being of an heredofamilial, inflammatory, dysmetabolic, senile age-related nature, the degenerative process deriving from apoptotic events caused by hypoxia or other detrimental stimuli due to ischemia or to the lack of trophic factors.

A method for the treatment or attenuation of apoptotic events occurring in neurodegenerative pathologies of the posterior part of the eye, comprising administering topically onto the anterior part of the eye to a human or an animal a therapeutically amount of coenzyme Q10 or ubiquinol, effective to treat said pathologies.
