Automated banking machine system and method

A portable wireless device adapted to operate in conjunction with an ATM comprising:

• at least one computer;
• a wireless communication system in operative connection with the at least one computer, wherein the at least one computer is operative to cause at least one first message to be communicated through the wireless communication system to an ATM including a cash dispenser, wherein the first message is representative of a request to perform a transaction with the ATM;
• and
• at least one output device on the portable device in operative connection with the at least one computer, wherein the at least one computer is operative responsive to at least one second message received from the ATM through the wireless communication system to cause the at least one output device to output a human perceivable message which is operative to prompt a user of the portable wireless device to approach the ATM.
