Abstract
A calibration method for an optical disk drive is presented. The operating parameters of an optical disk drive are initially calibrated when the disk drive is produced or during a repair step. The disk drive is then field calibrated during normal operation. Operating parameters can be field calibrated during power up. Further, operating parameters can be field calibrated when a new optical media is inserted into the optical disk drive. Additionally, operating parameters can be field calibrated during error recovery.
Claims24
A method of calibrating operating parameters of an optical disk drive, comprising:
- initially calibrating operating parameters when the optical disk drive is produced or during a repair operation;
- and
- field calibrating selected ones of the operating parameters during normal operation of the optical disk drive wherein field calibrating selected ones of the operating parameters includes calibrating a subset of the operating varameters during error recovery.
An optical disk drive, comprising:
- an optical pick-up unit;
- an analog processor coupled to receive signals from detectors in the optical pick-up unit and provide digital signals;
- at least one processor coupled to receive the digital signals, the at least one processor calculating a control signal;
- and
- a driver coupled to control the position of the optical pick-up unit in response to the control signal,
- wherein the at least one processor executes an algorithm that
- initially calibrates operating parameters when the optical disk drive is produced or during a repair operation;
- and
- field calibrates selected ones of the operating parameters during normal operation of the optical disk drive, wherein the field calibration includes the calibration of a subset of operating parameteres during error recovery.
The drive of claim 13, wherein the at least one processor initially calibrates operating parameters by
- loading initial values of the operating parameters;
- and
- adjusting the operating parameters for optimum performance of the optical disk drive.
An optical disk drive, comprising:
- means for initially calibrating operating parameters of the optical disk drive;
- means for field calibrating operating parameters of the optical disk drive;
- and
- means for field calibrating a subset of selected operating parameters during error recovery.
