Abstract
A prosthetic device having a polyaryletherketone component with a wettable surface is disclosed. The surface of the polyaryletherketone component has a surface chemistry which enhances the ability of tissues to grow directly thereon. An associated method for enhancing the wettability of a prosthetic device is also disclosed.
Claims15
A prosthetic device, comprising:
- a PEEK component, wherein said PEEK component has a surface, and said surface has a wettability such that a contact angle of a bead of water positioned on said surface has a value less than 78°.
A prosthetic device, comprising:
- a polyaryletherketone component, wherein (i) said polyaryletherketone component has a surface sulfonated to a degree that said surface has a wettability such that a contact angle of a bead of water positioned on said surface has a value less than 78°.
A prosthetic device, comprising:
- a polyaryletherketone component, wherein (i) said polyaryletherketone component has a surface and (ii) said surface has a wettability such that a contact angle of a bead of water positioned on said surface has a value within a range of about 77° to about 40°.
A prosthetic device, comprising:
- a polyaryletherketone component, wherein (i) said polyaryletherketone component has a surface and (ii) said surface has a wettability such that a contact angle of a bead of water positioned on said surface has a value less than 40°.
A prosthetic device, comprising:
- a polyaryletherketone component, wherein (i) said polyaryletherketone component has a surface and (ii) said surface has a wettability such that a contact angle of a bead of water positioned on said surface has a value less than 30°.
