Abstract
The invention pertains to compositions and therapeutic and prophylatic methods for treating/preventing infections in an animal or human by administering a soluble β-glucan composition comprising β-glucan molecules having an average molecular weight of at least 1,000,000 daltons, as determined by multi-angle laser light scattering (VHMW-glucan).
Claims12
A method for enhancing myclopoeisis and thrombopoeisis comprising administering to an animal or human the aqueous soluble underivatized, β-glucan composition comprising β-glucan molecules having an average molecular weight of at least 1,000,000 daltons, as determined by multi-angle laser light scattering, wherein the composition has a triple helix aggregate conformation and enhances immune response without inducing TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6, in an amount sufficient for enhancing myelopoeisis and thrombopoeisis.
An aqueous soluble β-glucan composition comprising β-glucan molecules having a molecular weight of about 2,000,000 daltons to about 4,000,000 daltons as determined by a multi-angle laser light scattering, wherein the composition has a triple helix aggregate conformation and enhances immune response without stimulating production of biochemical mediators that induce detrimental side effects.
