A process for the preparation of microcapsules having a capsule core comprising water-soluble organic substances as solution in a hydrophillic solvent, and a capsule coating which is a condensate of formaldehyde resins and/or alkyl ethers thereof, by condensing formaldehyde resins in the hydrophilic phase of a water-in-oil emulsion in the presence of a protective colloid.
