Abstract
A cotton cultivar, designated DP 560 BGII, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of cotton cultivar DP 560 BGII, to the plants of cotton DP 560 BGII and to methods for producing a cotton plant produced by crossing the cultivar DP 560 BGII with itself or another cotton variety. The invention further relates to hybrid cotton seeds and plants produced by crossing the cultivar DP 560 BGII with another cotton cultivar.
Claims25
A seed of cotton cultivar designated DP 560 BGII, wherein a representative sample of seed of said cultivar was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5365.
A cotton plant, or a part thereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of cotton cultivar DP 560 BGII, a representative sample of seed of said cultivar having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5365.
A method of introducing a desired trait into cotton cultivar DP 560 BGII wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a DP 560 BGII plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5365, with a Gossypium hirsutum plant of another cotton cultivar that comprises a desired trait to produce progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance and resistance to bacterial, fungal or viral disease;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the DP 560 BGII plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of cotton cultivar DP 560 BGII to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of cotton cultivar DP 560 BGII listed in Table 1.
