A polyhydric alcohol-modified silicone having the formula (1):
- R1aR2bR3cSiO(4-a-b-c)/2 (1)
- wherein R1 is, identical or different, a 1–30 carbon atom alkyl group, aryl group, aralkyl group, fluorine-substituted alkyl group, amino-substituted alkyl group or carboxyl-substituted alkyl group, or an organic group of the formula (2):
- —CdH2d—O—(C2H4O)e(C3H6O)fR4 (2)
- wherein R4 is a hydrocarbon group having 4–30 carbon atoms, or R5—(CO)— wherein R5 is a hydrocarbon group having 1–30 carbon atoms, d, e and f are integers in the range, respectively, 0≦d≦15, 0≦e≦5, and 0≦f≦50;
- R2 is of the formula (3):
- -Q-O—X (3)
- wherein Q is a bivalent hydrocarbon group having 3–20 carbon atoms which may contain at least an ether linkage or ester bond, and X is a polyhydric alcohol-substituted hydrocarbon group which has at least two hydroxyl groups;
- R3 is an organosiloxane having the formula (4):
- wherein R groups each represent a 1–30 carbon atom alkyl group, aryl group, aralkyl group or fluorinated alkyl group, g and h are integers in the range, respectively, 1≦g≦5, and 0≦h≦500, and a, b and c are in the range, respectively, 1.0≦a≦2.5, 0.001≦b≦1.5, and 0.001≦c≦1.5.
