Various types of insulated coolant lines that extend between a heat exchanger and an intravascular heat exchange catheter are disclosed.

In a system including a heat exchanger, an intravascular closed loop heat exchange catheter disposable in a patient to exchange heat therewith, and at least one coolant line connecting the heat exchanger to the catheter and located outside the body of the patient when the catheter is disposed inside the patient,
- means for insulating the coolant line.
