Abstract
Polymeric materials are recycled by transformation to useful chemicals by oxidization in the liquid phase using acetic acid as a solvent and a metal bromide catalyst.
Claims21
A process for the oxidation of polymeric material comprising contacting the polymeric material with an oxidant in the presence of a homogenous metal-catalyst under conditions promoting oxidation of the backbone of the polymeric material to produce monomers of the polymeric material or oxidized derivatives thereof.
