Abstract
Disclosed is a method of promoting the maturation of monocytes comprising the administration of a reactive oxygen species (ROS) inhibitor or scavenger and at least one monocyte maturation-promoting agent. A composition for promoting the maturation of monocytes is likewise disclosed. The pharmaceutical composition includes a compound effective to promote the maturation of monocytes and a ROS inhibitor or scavenger combined in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
Claims15
A method of promoting the maturation of monocytcs into dendritic cells in a subject having cancer comprising:
- identifying a subject having cancer, administering at least one monocyte maturation-promoting agent selected from the group consisting of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), Interleukin-4 (IL-4), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), TNF-α, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), and Interleukin-18 (IL-18);
- and
- administering a reactive oxygen species (ROS) production or release inhibiting compound selected from the group consisting of histamine, histamine salts, histamine receptor agonist, serotonin, 5HT agonists, and an endogenous histamine releasing compound.
