Abstract
A method for detecting α-oxoaldehydes in the whole blood, blood plasma and/or serum of a patient. A respiratory air sample is analyzed for the presence of at least one α-oxoaldehyde, and the presence of α-oxoaldehydes in the whole blood, blood plasma and/or serum of the patient is determined from the results of the analysis.

A method for detecting α-oxoaldehydes in at least one of whole blood, blood plasma and serum of a patient, the method comprising analyzing a breath air sample for the presence of at least one α-oxoaldehyde and deducing the presence of α-oxoaldehydes in the at least one of whole blood, blood plasma and serum of the patient from the analysis result.
