Abstract
A new insulation system is provided that contains microspheres. This insulation system can be used to provide insulated panels and clamshells, and to insulate annular spaces around objects used to transfer, store, or transport cryogens and other temperature-sensitive materials. This insulation system provides better performance with reduced maintenance than current insulation systems.
Claims5
A cryogenic insulation system, for use in cryogenic applications, comprising a form which is evacuated or filled with gas, said form selected from the group consisting of:
- a pre-existing annular space, a flat panel and a curved form, said form filled with microsphere particles, wherein at least some of the microspheres are not coated with a material to reduce radiation heat transfer, and wherein the filled form does not contain density gradients as a result of the fluidic motion of the microspheres.
