Abstract
Methods whereby, by reference to fructosamine oxidase activity in blood plasma of a patient or patients, the risk of diabetes associated vascular complications can be assessed, candidate fructosamine oxidase inhibitors and/or antagonists can be identified or tested and the inhibition and/or antagonism of the fructosamine oxidase inhibition and/or antagonism of a patient can be assessed.

A method of determining a level of fructosamine oxidase activity in a sample comprising measuring the conversion of a substrate glycated protein to a product catalyzed by fructosamine oxidase, wherein a superoxide scavenging mechanism is disabled in said method.
A method of determining a level of fructosamine oxidase activity in a sample comprising measuring conversion of a substrate to a product catalyzed by a mammalian fructosamine oxidase.
A method of determining a level of fructosamine oxidase activity in a sample comprising measuring the conversion of a substrate to a product catalyzed by fructosamine oxidase, wherein the sample is from a human subject.
