Abstract
Controlled release of active agents from sustained release push delivery devices having high drug loading are described wherein residual drug content in the device is minimized by the utilization of a flow-promoting layer between a semi-permeable wall and drug layer comprising the device.
Claims7
A dosage form for an active agent comprising:
- A wall defining a cavity, the wall having an exit orifice formed or formable therein and at least a portion of the wall being semipermeable;
- an expandable layer located within the cavity;
- a dry or substantially dry state drug layer located within the cavity adjacent the exit orifice and in contacting relationship with the expandable layer;
- and a flow-promoting layer interposed at least partially between the wall and the drug layer.
A method of facilitating the release of a drug from a dosage form comprising a dry or substantially dry state compressed drug composition, a semipermeable wall and a push layer, the method comprising interposing a flow-promoting layer at least partially between the semipermeable wall and the compressed drug composition.
