Abstract
An excisional biopsy method is disclosed. The method can include rotating an arcuate shaped electrode around a tissue specimen, and drawing a sheath around the tissue specimen as the specimen is cut from a tissue mass. In one embodiment, the method includes tunneling to a tissue site with one electrode, and cutting with a second electrode to obtain the tissue specimen.
Claims22
A method for removal of a lesion from tissue comprising:
- positioning a tissue cutting electrode in proximity to a lesion;
- rotating the tissue cutting electrode to cut a tissue specimen containing the lesion;
- and
- deploying a specimen containment sheath around the tissue specimen during rotation of the tissue cutting electrode.
1 more element
A process for removal of a lesion from tissue comprising:
- inserting an RF loop probe into tissue of a patient in proximity to the lesion, the RF loop probe having a probe housing with a rotatable RF loop cutter with at least one electrode mounted at the distal end of the probe;
- during the step of inserting, supplying the at least one electrode with an RF actuating signal for tunneling of the probe;
- after the probe is properly positioned relative to the lesion, rotationally driving the RF loop cutter during a rotational cut around a tissue specimen containing the lesion;
- during the step of the rotational driving, supplying the at least one electrode with an RF actuating signal for cutting by the probe;
- during the step of rotational driving, deploying a specimen containment sheath stored within the probe housing and attached to the rotatable RF loop cutter, such that the specimen containment sheath is drawn around the tissue specimen as the RF loop cutter rotationally cuts around the specimen.
