Abstract
The invention relates to a method for the extraction and use of a glycoprotein fraction extracted from an archaebacterium: Halobacterium halobium. The product of the invention, when incorporated into a cosmetic preparation, indeed exhibits the characteristic feature of protecting the cells of the skin from the harmful effects of pollution and/or ultraviolet radiation.
Claims9
A cosmetic composition comprising an archaebacteria glycoprotein fraction in an amount by weight of 25% to 40% in a cosmetically acceptable medium.
A method of producing an archaebacteria glycoprotein fraction comprising:
- obtaining a bacterial mass by culturing archaebacteria;
- extracting the bacterial mass with three successive extractions, the extractions comprising:
- (a) a halogenated solvent;
- (b) a C1-C4 alkanol;
- and
- (c) water,
- wherein an archaebacteria glycoprotein fraction is obtained.
A method for protecting skin cells comprising:
- obtaining a cosmetic composition comprising an archaebacteria glycoprotein fraction in an amount by weight of 25% to 40% in a cosmetically acceptable medium;
- and
- applying the cosmetic composition to the skin.
