Abstract
A curable composition comprises epoxy resin preparable by reaction of epichlorohydrin with at least one of bisphenol A or bisphenol F, polyfunctional (meth)acrylate, dicyandiamide and photoinitiator. The curable composition is useful for preparing treated backings and coated abrasive articles.
Claims15
A coated abrasive article comprising a backing and abrasive layer wherein the abrasive layer comprises abrasive particles and a binder comprising, based on the total weight of the components a) though e), a reaction product of a curable composition comprising:
- a) from 50 to 90 percent by weight of at least one epoxy rein preparable by reaction of epichlorohydrin with at least one of bisphenol A or bisphenol F;
- b) from 1 to 20 percent by weight of polyfunctional (meth)acrylate
- c) dicyandiamide;
- d) photoinitiator;
- and
- e) optional epoxy cure catalyst;
- wherein the curable composition further comprises a novolac resin that is present in an amount of up to 25 percent by weight base an total weight of the curable composition.
A coated abrasive article comprising a backing and an abrasive layer, further comprising at least one of a presize layer, a saturant, a subsize, a backsize layer, or a tie layer comprising a binder that, based on the total weight of components a) through e), is a reaction product of a curable composition comprising:
- a) from 50 to 90 percent by weight of at least one epoxy resin preparable by reaction of epichlorohydrin with at least one of bisphenol A or bisphenol F;
- b) from 1 to 20 percent by weight of polyfunctional (meth)acrylate
- c) dicyandiamide;
- d) photoinitiator, and
- e) optional epoxy cure catalyst;
- wherein the curable composition further comprises a novolac resin that is present in an amount of up to 25 percent by weight based on the total weight of the curable composition.
