Abstract
Vinyl group-containing diarylethene monomers and photochromic polymers made there from. The diarylethene monomers may be suitable for controlled polyermerization. Polymers formed from the diarylethene monomers may have optical properties such as, for example, optical signal control properties, photochromic properties, and/or optical reflectivity properties.
Claims6
A diarylethene monomer of the formula (1),
- wherein Z1 and Z2 are (a) each a independently cyano group or (b) chemically linked together to form a 4-6-membered ring, the ring being optionally substituted with one or more fluoro atoms;
- and
- Ar1 and A2 are independently
- where X and Y are independently O, S, NH or N—OH3;
- R2 and R5 are independently optionally substituted C1-C3 alkyls;
- R3 is H, F or optionally substituted C1-C3 alkyls;
- R4 and R6 are independently H, CH3, C(═O)CH3, isoxazole, vinyl, C(═O)—Ar3—CH═CH2, C(═O)—Ar4, or N(Ar5)2, with the proviso that at least one of Ar1 or Ar2 comprises R4 or R6 chosen from vinyl or C(═O)—Ar3—CH═CH2, and Ar3, Ar4 or Ar5 are optionally substituted benzenes or thiophenes.

A photochromic polymerizable composition comprising:
- 0.01-99.8 weight % of a diarylethene monomer of formula (1),
- wherein Z1 and Z2 are (a) each a cyano group or (b) chemically linked together to form a 4-6-membered ring, the ring being optionally substituted with one or more fluoro atoms;
- and
- Ar1 and Ar2 are independently
- where X and Y are independently O, S, NH or N—CH3;
- R2 and R5 are independently optionally substituted C1-C3 alkyls;
- R3 is H, F or optionally substituted C1-C3 alkyl;
- R4 and R6 are independently H, CH3, C(═O)CH3, isoxazole, vinyl, C(═O)—Ar3—CH═CH2, C(═O)—Ar4, or N(Ar5)2, with the proviso that at least one of Ar1 or Ar2 comprises R4 or R6 chosen from vinyl or C(═O)—Ar3—CH═CH2, and Ar3, Ar4 or are optionally substituted benzenes or thiophenes;
- 0-99.8 weight % of at least one comonomer having unsaturated functional group chosen from styrene, vinyl, methacryl and acryl compound;
- and 0.19-5 weight % of a polymerization initiator.
