- B is phenyl;
- D is phenyl optionally substituted with L;
- the —Z—R1 and —X—D groups are positioned in a 1-2 relationship to one another on phenyl or pyridyl ring A;
- the phenyl-ring A atom positioned ortho to the —X— linking group, in the 3-position relative to the —Z— linking group, is not substituted;
- R1 is positioned on the phenyl-ring B in a 1-3 or 1-4 relationship with the —Z— linking group;
- R1 is carboxy;
- Z is selected from —CH(R3a)CH(R3a)N(R2)—, —CH(R3a)N(R2)— and —CH(R3a)S— wherein R3a is selected from (C1-C4)alkyl and the left-most atom of each aforesaid moiety is attached to A;
- or Z is selected from —CH(R3)N(R2)CH(R3)— and —N(R2)CH(R3)— wherein R3 is selected from hydrogen or (C1-C4)alkyl and the left-most atom of each aforesaid moiety is attached to A;
- X is selected from —OCH2—, —CH2CH2— and —N(R2)CH2— wherein the left most atom of each aforesaid moiety is attached to A, and
- R2 is selected from hydrogen, or (C1-C6)alkyl,
