Inbred KW7606 is a Lancaster-Mol7 family based inbred that is specifically bred by a pedigree selection method for the north central United States. The invention also relates to the seeds of inbred corn line KW76061, to the plants of inbred corn line KW7606 and to methods for producing a corn plant by crossing the inbred line KW7606 with itself or another corn line. The invention further relates to transgenic corn plants produced from inbred corn plant KW7606.
Claims25
Seed of corn inbred line designated KW7606, representative seed of said line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5799.
A method of introducing a desired trait into corn inbred line KW7606 comprising:
- a) crossing KW7606 plants grown from seed deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5799, with plants of another corn line that comprise a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, and resistance to bacterial, fungal or viral disease;
- b) selecting F1 progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected F1 progeny plants;
- c) crossing the selected progeny plants with KW7606 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of corn inbred line KW7606 to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and
- e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of corn inbred line KW7606 listed in Table 1 as determined at the 5% significance level when grown in the same environmental conditions.
