Internet system for connecting client-travelers with geographically-associated data

A system for selecting and delivering to users information related to stationary exhibits in a premise, comprising:

• a plurality of user-portable computerized appliances for receiving and reporting the information to the users;
• a data repository for storing the premise-related information;
• a system for periodically determining positions of the appliances within boundaries of the premise;
• a server for selecting from the premise-related information and delivering the selected information to the appliances for reporting to the users;
• and
• a wireless communication link between the data repository and the user-portable appliances;
• characterized in that the system periodically tracks the positions of the user-portable appliances within the boundaries of the premise, and in that the server selects and presents information specific to an exhibit if the user-portable appliance is stationary, and in response to movement of the user-portable device, selects and presents general information related to one or more approachable exhibits in the direction of movement of the device.

A method for selecting and delivering to users information related to stationary exhibits in a premise, comprising the steps of:

• (a) providing a plurality of user-portable computerized appliances for receiving and reporting the information to the users;
• (b) storing the premise-related information in a data repository;
• (c) periodically determining positions of the appliances within boundaries of the premise;
• (d) selecting from the premise-specific information according to positions and direction of movement of the appliance;
• and
• (e) delivering the selected information to the appliances by wireless link for reporting to the users;
• wherein information specific to an exhibit is selected and delivered if the user-portable appliance is stationary, and upon movement of the appliance, general information related to one or more approachable exhibits in the direction of movement of the appliance is selected and delivered.
