Abstract
An inbred corn line, designated VMM1, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of inbred corn line VMM1, to the plants of inbred corn line VMM1 and to methods for producing a corn plant, either inbred or hybrid, by crossing the inbred line VMM1 with itself or another corn line. The invention further relates to methods for producing a corn plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic plants produced by that method and to methods for producing other inbred corn lines derived from the inbred VMM1.
Claims25
An inbred corn seed designated VMM1, wherein a sample of said seed has been deposited under ATCC Accession number PTA-5681.
A corn plant with all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of corn inbred VMM1, representative seed of said line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5681.
A method of introducing a desired trait into corn inbred line VMM1 comprising:
- (a) crossing the VMM1 plants, grown from seed deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5681, with plants of another corn line that comprise a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, and resistance to bacterial, fungal or viral disease;
- (b) selecting F1 progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected F1 progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected F1 progeny plants with the VMM1 plants to produce first backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for first backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of maize inbred line VMM1 to produce selected first backcross progeny plants;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of maize inbred line VMM1 as determined at a 5% significance level when grown in the same environmental conditions.
